RENO, Nev. – General Manager Andy Smith announced Wednesday that he will depart Reno 1868 FC at the end of this year.

Smith, who has served as general manager since 2016, will continue to serve as a consultant until Dec. 31.

“I want to thank the entire Reno 1868 FC organization for the opportunity to be a part of an incredible launch and a special first two seasons both on and off the field,” Smith said.

“The Reno community has shown great support for this club and I’m proud of the foundation that has been created by our staff and team during my time here. I will definitely miss the fans and many wonderful people I’ve gotten to know over the past few years in Reno.  That said I look forward to the next chapter and know that Reno is in great hands.”  

Under Smith’s leadership, Reno was able to amass 34 wins in two seasons that featured the United Soccer League’s MVP, Rookie of the Year and Assist Champion along with USL Coach of the Year nominee Ian Russell.

Additionally Reno made back-to-back playoff appearance and boasted the highest attendance per capita in U.S. professional soccer in 2017.

Club President Eric Edelstein thanked Smith and wished him success in his next chapter.

“Few experiences are more special than launching a club for our community,” Edelstein said. “Andy played an integral role during a crucial time in our development. 

“I ask everyone to join me in thanking Andy for his contributions and wishing him well.  We will work as a team to identify the best path forward to support Head Coach Ian Russell, our players, our San Jose Earthquakes partnership, and our community.”
