RENO, Nev. – Reno 1868 FC will host Liga MX side Monarcas Morelia this July in an international friendly.
In conjunction with Pazzo Sports, Reno will host a Liga MX team for the second year in a row on July 14 at 7:30 p.m. inside Greater Nevada Field.
Reno hosted Atlas FC last season for the club’s first international friendly.
“We are committed to bringing the best soccer clubs in the world to the biggest little city,” Reno 1868 FC president Eric Edelstein said. “I’m thrilled to have a club like Morelia making its first ever trip to Nevada and celebrating soccer together at Greater Nevada Field.”
Tickets for the friendly will go on sale to the public at 10 a.m. on May 20 following a pre-sale to season ticket members.
Morelia is one of the premier clubs hailing from the Mexican state of Michoacan. The club has won Liga MX, Copa MX, Supercopa MX championships over the past decade.
Between 2002-2003, the club was one of the premier clubs in the Western Hemisphere making it to the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup final in both years.
Morelia currently sits in eighth in the Liga Bancomer’s Clausura competition.
Reno 1868 FC takes the field Wednesday for its Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup match against Portland Timbers U-23 at 7 p.m.
