RENO, Nev. – Fast-paced, high-scoring soccer isn’t the only thing brewing at Greater Nevada Field this year.
Reno 1868 FC, in collaboration with Great Basin Brewing Company is rolling out its own signature beer in 2018.
The team announced its partnership with the Sparks-based brewery Thursday night at the club’s Meet the Team event for season members.
“We’ve been wanting to do this for a while now,” Andy Smith, general manager of Reno 1868 FC, said. “Collaborating with Tom Young (founder and brewmaster of Great Basin Brewing Company) was a no-brainer given the amount of success they’ve had on a local, national and international scale.
“Most of all, we are excited to have the fan and community input throughout the process.”
Fans will be able to vote on the type of beer that will roll off the line this year.
Both Reno 1868 FC and Great Basing Brewing Company plan to hold tastings leading up to the official release, which will be announced at a later date.
“This is really cool,” Young said Thursday night. “We know that soccer fans like beer…and so I think this is a great collaboration.”
Reno 1868 FC begins its regular season Saturday, March 17 at 4 p.m. against defending Western Conference champion Swope Park Rangers. The first 1,868 fans will receive a free leprechaun hat in the match presented by Dolan Auto Group and Reno News & Review.
