RENO, NEV. — After the thrilling first win in club history over Phoenix, Reno 1868 FC returned to Greater Nevada Field to play Seattle Sounders FC 2 on May 20.
The boys in blue did not disappoint. Reno erupted offensively and defensively as more than 5,500 fans witnessed Reno’s first win at home.
Coming in at No. 3 on the list of Top 5 matches this season is Reno’s dominating 6-0 performance against Seattle Sounders FC 2 at Greater Nevada Field.
Forward Dane Kelly stole the show again that night.
After a rough first 20 minutes, Reno picked up the pace and Kelly exploded offensively.
In the 28th minute of the game Kelly launched a goal past Seattle’s keeper to set the tone for the rest of the match. Kelly came back to score in the 32nd and 35th minute to complete back-to-back matches with a hat trick. Within 10 minutes, Kelly turned the score 3-0.
That performance helped lead to a USL Player of the Month award in May.
But Kelly wasn’t alone. Midfielders Seth Casiple and Lindo Mfeka increased the deficit making it 5-0 Reno.
Captain Jimmy Okford sealed the deal, scoring in the 92nd minute of play.
Reno held 68.3% possession and dominated scoring with 21 shots on goal, with Seattle lacking to have any shots on target.
The atmosphere at Greater Nevada Field was electric and there was no denying this was a special moment as Reno turned the corner in the USL.
Reno left victorious with an ending score of 6-0 for their home crowd.
