KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Reno 1868 FC snapped Swope Park Rangers’ seven-match win streak after a huge win on Sunday in Kansas City.
Reno topped Swope Park 4-1 to kick off its away trip by taking down one of the top teams in the USL.
The goal-scoring fest started early for Reno as Antoine Hoppenot notched a goal in the opening minute via an assist from defender Nick von Niederhausern.
The goal was Hoppenot’s seventh this season and set the tempo for the rest of the match. Midfielder Luis Felipe etched his way on the scoresheet shortly before the half and Reno entered halftime with a commanding 2-0 lead.
Swope Park answered with a goal of its own in the 60th minute with a goal by Felipe Hernandez.
But Reno did not park the bus the rest of the match and in the 76th minute, striker Dane Kelly put a goal past his former team.
The goal was Kelly’s 14th this season putting him in a tie with fellow Jamaican striker Romario Williams (Charleston Battery) for most goals this season in the USL.
Reno wasn’t done as Seth Casiple chipped in his fourth goal this year off a beautiful pass by Junior Burgos to put the nail in the coffin in the 90th minute.
The three points keeps Reno in the top half of the Western Conference table as the team prepares for two additional road matches.
Reno travels to Oklahoma City on Wednesday before wrapping up the away trip in Tulsa on Saturday.
