RENO – Registration to Reno 1868 FC’s first-ever tryout officially closed after 130 prospective players filled the session over a five-week span, Reno 1868 FC announced today.

The tryout, to be held on Sunday, September 18, at Moana Springs Recreational Complex, will see a variety of soccer players, including 45 coming outside the state of Nevada or making a four-plus hour commute to the Biggest Little City.

“Since day one of the franchise, we’ve heard from hundreds of players who have a strong desire to play for Reno 1868 FC,” said 1868 FC general manager Andy Smith. “This tryout will give us a taste of talented players – both local and afar – who each has a chance to leave a lasting impression as we narrow the search for our roster.”

Former U.S. Soccer legend Eric Wynalda and San Jose Earthquakes interim general manager Chris Leitch will join Smith at the tryout, which runs from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The tryout is open for public viewing.

Greater Nevada Field will host up to 18 matches in 2017, with 16 coming as regular-season matches for Reno 1868 FC during their inaugural USL campaign. The USL previously announced that its regular season will expand to 32 matches beginning in 2017.

Since the franchise was announced in September 2015, Reno 1868 FC has unveiled its club name, colors, crest and home jersey kit. The away kit and coaching staff will be announced at a later date.
