Colorado Springs, Colo. – On Saturday, Reno 1868 FC (1-1-3) travels to Colorado Springs to take on Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC (2-2-1) at Weidner Field.
Reno is coming off of a 3-1 lost against Real Monarchs SLC from last week. The opposition is coming off of a 2-0 loss against Orange County SC.
“We made a couple of pretty big mistakes defensively in the first half that cost us,” Head Coach Ian Russell said. “Plus, we missed a penalty kick and if we would have made that and gone up 1-0 in the first couple minutes of the game then the game changes entirely.”
Reno fans got a taste of a new signing for this season, Aidan Apodaca, in last week’s contest against the Monarchs. The forward scored his first goal in a Reno 1868 FC uniform after subbing on at the half. The goal was the forward’s third of his USL Championship career after scoring two in his previous season with Bethlehem Steel FC.
“Aidan is a player who has really good speed. He’s a younger player with some things to learn,” Head Coach Ian Russell said. “He brings a lot of energy to the field and we’re excited to see what else he does for us this season.”
Saturday’s match will be a chance to see more from Apodaca and the rest of the squad after a solid week of training.
“We’re feeling good, I think the team has had a good week of training,” Head Coach Ian Russell said. “Colorado is a team that we know well, we played them in preseason and they’re an athletic team. After watching some games, it looks like they’re trying to possess the ball a little more than they did last year. Should be a really good competitive game.”
Saturday’s match will be streamed on ESPN+ with a kickoff time of 5:00 p.m. PT. An official watch party will be held at Great Basin Brewery in Sparks where there will be food and drink specials. The boys in blue return home on April 20 to host New Mexico United. For tickets, visit Reno1868FC.com or the Greater Nevada Field ticket office.
