Malenab is entering his 6th year as an assistant coaching in the United Soccer League, Chris joined Reno 1868 FC in 2018 after spending the previous four season as an assistant at Sacramento Republic FC.
During the 2014 inaugural season of Sacramento Republic FC, he served as an assistant coach to Predrag Radosavljević (Preki) during the club’s championship campaign.
From 2015 to 2017 served as video analyst / assistant coach for Sacramento Republic FC under head coach Paul Buckle.
Chris started his coaching career serving as technical director at various youth clubs in the greater Sacramento area while coaching high school soccer.
Along with youth coaching experience, he has served as an assistant coach at the college level, at Cosumnes River College (NJCAA), California State University Stanislaus (NCAA D-II) and San Joaquin Delta College (NJCAA).
He also coached in the Fourth Division in the U.S. Soccer structure as an assistant coach of the Sacramento Knights FC, who played in the MPSL (now NPSL). The 2004 Sacramento Knights, qualified for the Open Cup that year and was the last standing amateur team in the tournament.
Chris currently holds various coaching certificates and licenses including the NSCAA (no United Soccer Coaches) Director of Coaching Diploma and is currently in the process of obtaining the USSF A-Senior licensee. Chris received his bachelor’s degree in sociology from California State University Sacramento and has completed course work in two masters programs; Cross Cultural Education and Performance Psychology.
Chris loves the outdoors and enjoys running the marathon distance having completed over 30 marathons including the Boston Marathon (2016) and New York City Marathon (2014). Chris’ other hobbies include searching for the perfect dessert in the United States as well as listening to conspiracy theory and true crime podcasts.
