RENO, Nev. — Reno 1868 FC players and coaches reported to the first week of preseason training on Thursday.
Players underwent physicals on Wednesday at Reno Orthopedic Center and Spine Nevada respectively before the first day of practice on Thursday at the University of Nevada-Reno.
"I think the first few days have been good," Reno head coach Ian Russell said. "We have a lot of guys returning and we added a lot of quality players in the offseason.
"So we're looking forward to the season ahead."
Midfielder Lindo Mfeka said he's encouraged by how the first week went and how he was able to remain fit and focused
"It's obviously tough when you don't have the entire team training with you," Mfeka said of the offseason. "But you have to do what you have to do to stay in shape.
"There is an area back home where I knew a lot of people played soccer. So after running, I'd play in a few pick-up games. Really just anything I needed to do to stay in shape."
On Friday, players underwent the beep test, an early indicator of endurance and physical shape. New signee and midfielder Christian Theirjung led the pack while fellow newcomer Guy Abend rounded out the Top 5 finishers.
