RENO, Nev. – History, a playoff spot and a seventh-straight win could potentially come Reno 1868 FC’s way this weekend when the club takes on Seattle Sounders 2.
Both clubs square off for the second time this season at 7 p.m. on Saturday in Seattle.
Reno is just seven points away from clinching a playoff spot and three goals away from the USL record for most goals in a single season.
Reno’s current goal tally stands at 59 on the season, the most in North American pro soccer.
Leading the Reno attack is Dane Kelly, who has 16 goals and is tied for the lead for most in the league. Kelly is in his second match back since making his debut with Jamaica.
The last time these two clubs met, Reno crushed Seattle 6-0 at Greater Nevada Field back on May 20.
The win sparked what has been an incredible run for 1868 FC, a run that has carried the team to second place in the Western Conference standings.
Seattle meanwhile is a contender for the eighth and final spot in the playoffs. The club sits in 11th place in the West but is coming off back-to-back losses.
Zach Mathers leads Seattle with nine goals this season.
